Cookies and Storage

Version 1.0 · Last updated: 4 August 2026

This page lists everything Hike stores on your device. It is a short list, because Hike has no analytics and no advertising.

The law here covers more than cookies. It covers anything stored on your device, including a browser's local storage, so both are listed.

1. Cookies

Two, both set by Hike itself. No third party sets a cookie on Hike.

NamePurposeLifetimeCategory
ca_sessionTells the app you are signed in, so it knows whether to show you the app or the sign in page. It is not a credential: it holds only the value 1, and the app still refuses to show your data without a real, verified session7 daysStrictly necessary
ca_referralSet only when you arrive through a referral link. Remembers the code so the person who invited you gets credit when you sign up. Cleared as soon as you create an account30 daysFunctional

We do not set analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or third party cookies of any kind. That is why Hike does not show you a consent banner: there is nothing to consent to beyond what the Service needs to work.

ca_referral is set when you follow a referral link, which we treat as you asking us to remember who sent you. If you would rather it were not stored, clear it in your browser or visit Hike directly instead of through the link.

2. Storage in your browser

Hike keeps some things in your browser's local and session storage rather than in cookies. These are never sent to anyone.

Needed to sign you in and keep you signed in

KeyContents
ca:access_tokenYour short lived sign in token (15 minutes)
ca:refresh_tokenYour longer lived sign in token (7 days)
ca:post_auth_redirectThe page to return you to after sign in
ca:verify_email, ca:verify_flow, ca:verify_last_sentProgress through email verification, including the resend countdown

Your preferences and drafts

KeyContents
careeros.onboardingYour onboarding answers before your account exists. Cleared when you sign up or sign out
careeros.lp.pain, careeros.lp.obwroteWhich option you picked on the homepage, so onboarding can start from it
careeros.sidebar.collapsedWhether your sidebar is collapsed
careeros.rb.view, careeros.rb.pageSizeHow you like your documents listed
careeros.stylePresetsResume styles you have saved
ca:trial_banner_dismissedThat you closed the trial banner

Clearing your browser storage signs you out and resets these preferences. It does not affect anything saved to your account.

3. The browser extension

If you install the Hike extension, it stores your sign in tokens, your Hike plan, your panel preferences, the list of sites where you have hidden it, and your most recent LinkedIn profile score.

Your LinkedIn profile score is stored only in the extension and is never sent to us.

4. The mobile app

The Hike mobile app stores your sign in tokens in your device's secure keychain (iOS Keychain or Android Keystore). It contains no analytics, no advertising identifier, and no tracking software of any kind.

5. How to control this

  • Cookies and local storage: clear them in your browser settings. You will be signed out.
  • The extension: remove it, or use its settings to hide it on chosen sites.
  • The mobile app: signing out clears the stored tokens.

6. Changes

If we ever add analytics or any third party that stores something on your device, we will update this page, tell you, and add a consent banner before turning it on.
